Family Adventure: A Review of The Gorge Zipline Experience

A Mother's Perspective…

As a mom of two adventurous teens, finding activities that excite us all can be a challenge. But our trip to The Gorge Zipline in Saluda, NC, delivered a perfect blend of heart-pounding excitement, stunning views, and unforgettable memories.

The Gorge is Steep, Fast, and Stunning

The Gorge Zipline offers an exhilarating tree-based canopy tour like no other. Descend 1,100 vertical feet across 11 ziplines, traverse a picturesque sky bridge, and tackle three thrilling rappels—all set in an untouched old-growth forest overlooking 18,000 acres of protected Green River Gamelands.

Safety Meets Scenic Adventure

Our visit during fall was perfectly timed—the mountains were ablaze with red, orange, and gold hues, creating a stunning backdrop for our adventure. The staff immediately put my safety concerns to rest with their professional briefings and rigorous equipment checks. From the moment we zipped off the rim of the gorge, my teenagers and I were hooked. Each line through the vibrant canopy was pure exhilaration, and the free-fall rappels added an adrenaline rush I’ll never forget.

A 13-Year-Old Boy's Review: Conquering Fears

Augie shared his experience at The Gorge: I don't like heights, so I was nervous at first, but with some encouragement I faced my fear in a really fun way. Once I started, the views and fall air made me forget I was even scared. The guides were nice and made sure I felt safe the whole time. Even the rappelling—something I never thought I’d try—was exciting and made me feel brave because of the auto belay system.
