We’re kicking off our Midsummer 2024 Thrill-Seekers edition with a ride aboard the first RailBike Tour in North Carolina! Andrews Valley Rail Tours offers three unique ways to take in the lovely NC mountain landscapes.
Your journey begins in the quaint mountain town of Andrews, NC, where you’ll check-in or book your tickets at the Historic Andrews Depot, built in 1890 upon completion of the Richmond and Danville Railroad. Make sure to arrive at least half an hour ahead of your reservation time and prepare for a 2-hour tour.
But first – you have to choose your ride from three options!
- The RailBike (300-lb maximum) is the only booking requiring (light) pedaling and you’ll have an electric pedal to assist your efforts.
- The Cart Ride (9-person maximum) requires no pedaling and comes with swiveling captain’s chairs with arm rests (always a fan favorite…)
- The Choo-Choo Speeder Ride (2-person maximum) is gas-powered with no pedaling necessary.
From there, set off on your Andrews Valley Rail Tours open-air expedition! Take pictures on the first five miles to the Historic Valley River Tunnel. Once you arrive at the open deck railroad bridges, you’ll have 30 minutes to walk around and explore the tunnel, constructed by railroad workers in the late 1800s.
