Early summer is prime treasure-hunting season. After months of spring cleaning, attics and garages are cleared out – which means new vintage treasures start showing up. If you love antiques, vintage finds, or the thrill of the unexpected, there’s no better place to be the third weekend in June than Historic U.S. Highway 301 in North Carolina.

The 301 Endless Yard Sale returns June 19–20, 2026, from 7 AM to 5 PM each day. This massive roadside event stretches more than 100 miles, running from the town of Weldon in the north to Dunn in the south. Along the way, you’ll find everything from everyday yard sale staples like kitchenware, toys, and vintage records to standout pieces such as retro furniture, old farm tools, and genuine antiques.

Shoppers travel from across the Carolinas and throughout the Southeast for the event, and many make it an annual tradition. What keeps people coming back isn’t just the deals. It’s the excitement of pulling over for a hand-painted sign, the surprise of finding something special in the middle of nowhere, and the conversations with sellers who know the stories behind what they’re offering.

This isn’t a single flea market. It’s a moving treasure hunt, and it’s best experienced with a full tank of gas, plenty of patience, and a spirit of adventure.

Stop at booths along the side of Highway 301 and you never know what you'll find!

The Route and What to Expect

The sale follows U.S. 301 through Johnston, Wilson, Nash, Halifax, and Harnett counties. Vendors set up at homes, church lots, business parking areas, side streets, and open fields. There’s no single master list of every stop, but official vendor maps and local postings can help you plan your route.

Highway 301 remains open to traffic throughout the event, so drive carefully and watch for pedestrians and sudden stops. Parking ranges from paved lots to roadside pull-offs and driveways. Always park well off the travel lane.

There’s no admission fee, and if you happen to fall in love with something too large for your vehicle, many communities along the route have shipping centers and post offices ready to help.

Take Your Time

Technically, you could drive the entire 100-mile route in a day, but it would feel rushed. The fun of the 301 Endless Yard Sale is the freedom to stop when something catches your eye,  or wander down a side street. Treat it like a mini road trip. Work one section the first day, stay overnight, enjoy a good dinner, and start fresh the next morning. Serious shoppers know that early morning offers the best selection before crowds build.

Where to Stay

Because the route spans several counties, you’ll find plenty of convenient overnight options.

Selma and Smithfield (Johnston County)
A great base for southern or central shoppers, with easy highway access and plenty of dining.

  • Holiday Inn Express Smithfield–Selma
  • Hampton Inn Selma–Smithfield

Wilson (Wilson County)

  • Tru by Hilton Wilson
  • Holiday Inn Express Wilson

Rocky Mount (Nash County)
A larger stop with more restaurant choices and shopping between sale days.

  • DoubleTree by Hilton Rocky Mount
  • Hampton Inn Rocky Mount

Dunn (Harnett County)
A convenient southern endpoint before heading home.

  • Comfort Inn Dunn
  • Hampton Inn Dunn

Rooms fill quickly for this weekend, especially in smaller towns, so early reservations are recommended.

Antique Stops Worth the Detour

If you want a break from roadside browsing, several established antique and resale hubs sit close to the route:

  • Twisted Willow Boutique – Smithfield
  • Rummage Warehouse – Wilson
  • Boone’s Antiques – Wilson
  • Tar River Flea Market – Rocky Mount
  • Small Shops Mall – Rocky Mount
  • Southern Treasures – Dunn

These indoor spots are especially helpful during midday heat or if you prefer more focused shopping.

If you’re considering artwork, look for artist signatures and check the back of the canvas. Older pieces are often attached with nails rather than staples.

Amanda’s Antiquing Tips

  • Start early. The best pieces often sell quickly, and many vendors set up before sunrise.
  • Bring cash.
  • Leave room in your vehicle. If you’re hoping to bring home larger items, measure your trunk space ahead of time and consider packing blankets or tie-downs.
  • Wear comfortable shoes
  • Don’t hesitate to negotiate politely.
  • If you’re considering artwork, look for artist signatures and check the back of the canvas. Older pieces are often attached with nails rather than staples.
  • Check for labels and markings. Sterling silver, gold, and many vintage items include stamps that help identify materials and age.
  • Bring a small magnet. It’s an easy way to distinguish plated steel from solid brass or silver.
  • Take photos if you’re unsure about a purchase, but remember that great pieces don’t always stick around long.
  • Make friends with the sellers. People who sell vintage and antiques are some of the most fascinating people you will ever meet. Ask them about a particular item that caught your eye and you just might leave with an incredible story to go along with your new treasure.
