Learn to Surf on the Carolina Coast

Standing on a surfboard looks effortless from the beach. Out in the Atlantic, with saltwater in your eyes and a board bobbing beneath you, it feels a little different.

The beach town just east of Wilmington is one of the most reliable places to surf on the East Coast, thanks to consistent swells and wide stretches of sandy shoreline. Even if you've never touched a surfboard before, chances are you'll be standing by the end of your first lesson.
NC Surf Adventures helps make that happen. Instructors meet students on the beach with boards, leashes, and rashguards, then teach the basics of paddling, reading waves, and popping to your feet before the wave disappears beneath you.
Families can sign children up for weeklong summer surf camps, while adults can choose group or private instruction at Wrightsville Beach, Figure Eight Island, and Topsail Island.
You don't need experience. You don't need your own equipment. Just a willingness to get knocked off a surfboard a few times before finally riding one all the way to shore.
